Dr Marc Heyning

Dr Marc Heyning is a highly respected and dedicated General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary healthcare to the community of Brunswick Heads and the surrounding Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. As a committed Family Physician, he delivers patient-centred care across all stages of life, fostering strong, multi-generational relationships with his patients. Dr Heyning is deeply integrated into his local community, offering a reassuring and professional approach to general medicine, preventative health, and patient advocacy.

With a diverse clinical focus, Dr Heyning specialises in women's health, particularly obstetrics, antenatal care, and intrapartum care. He is highly skilled in providing contraception services, including the insertion and removal of intra-uterine devices (IUDs) and contraceptive implants. In addition to his work as a GP Obstetrician, he serves as a Designated Aviation Examiner, conducting specialised medical assessments for the aviation industry. Dr Heyning also provides compassionate guidance and medical advice regarding voluntary assisted dying, ensuring patients and their families receive supportive, dignified care during challenging times.

Dr Heyning graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from the University of Melbourne in 1982. Committed to continuous professional development, he has obtained advanced postgraduate qualifications, including an Advanced Diploma of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRANZCOG Advanced), the Australian Certificate of Civil Aviation Medicine (ACCAM), and a Master of Education (MEd). He is a recognised leader in rural medicine, having received the Distinguished Service Award from the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM). Dr Heyning also contributes to the broader medical community through his involvement with various professional committees, including the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, and serves as an Accredited Teaching Supervisor, mentoring the next generation of Rural Generalists and General Practitioners.
