Dr Mac Nixon

Dr Mac Nixon, an esteemed orthopaedic surgeon based in the Hunter region, specialises in treating disorders of the hip and knee, alongside performing general orthopaedic surgeries.

After completing his Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at James Cook University (JCU), Queensland, Dr Nixon pursued advanced training through the Australian Orthopaedic Association (AOA) in Newcastle. He further honed his skills with two subspecialty fellowships: the St John of God Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Reconstruction Fellowship in Perth, Western Australia, and the Orthopaedic Research Institute of Queensland Lower Limb Arthroplasty and Reconstruction Fellowship in Townsville.

Driven by a passion to restore patients' quality of life, he uses comprehensive assessments, advanced surgical techniques, and personalised rehabilitation plans. His approach extends beyond treating injuries to consider patients' lifestyles, personal goals, and support networks, ensuring holistic care. Recognising the emotional challenges patients face, Dr Nixon is known for his compassionate and thorough approach throughout the treatment journey, from initial consultation through to surgery and follow-up care.

Education is central to Dr Nixon's practice, and he actively educates patients, families, as well as medical professionals including registrars and junior doctors. He values mentoring and supporting colleagues in their professional growth.

Dr Nixon holds hospital appointments at Maitland Private Hospital, Lingard Private Hospital, Lake Macquarie Private Hospital and New Maitland Hospital.
