Dr Lea-Anne May

Dr Lea-Anne May is a highly regarded Consultant Rheumatologist and General Physician who provides comprehensive, patient-centred care for individuals experiencing a wide range of musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions. With an objective and reassuring clinical approach, she specialises in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory arthritis, systemic autoimmune diseases, and vasculitis. Dr May is dedicated to helping patients navigate complex, chronic conditions, utilising tailored multidisciplinary treatment strategies to improve their overall quality of life.

Dr May obtained her medical degree from Otago University in New Zealand. She subsequently completed her specialist training in Rheumatology at prominent teaching hospitals in Sydney, Australia. Committed to clinical excellence and the advancement of medical knowledge, she also undertook dedicated research at a leading medical research institute. Throughout her career, Dr May has actively contributed to the medical community through lecturing and clinical teaching, mentoring medical students and Registrars.

Before relocating her practice to Tasmania, Dr May gained extensive clinical experience working as a Consultant Rheumatologist at major metropolitan hospitals and specialist clinics in New South Wales. Her diverse clinical background includes consulting on complex inflammatory eye diseases at a dedicated ophthalmic hospital, as well as managing paediatric rheumatology and adult musculoskeletal medicine. Her clinical interests encompass the thorough assessment and management of crystal arthritis, including gout and calcium pyrophosphate disease, as well as providing expert guidance on complex, multi-system inflammatory disorders.
