Dr Karen Kan

Dr Karen Kan is a specialist paediatric dentist and the founder of Kew Paediatric Group. She obtained her Bachelor of Dental Science and Master of Dental Science degrees from The University of Melbourne. She holds dual fellowships in general dental practice and paediatric dentistry specialist dental practice from the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons and is also a fellow of the International College of Dentists.

Dr Kan is a member of several prestigious dental organisations, including the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry, the American Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, the European Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, and the International Association of Paediatric Dentistry.

In addition to her private practice, Dr Kan has held academic appointments at the Melbourne Dental School, the University of Minnesota’s School of Dentistry in the USA, the Royal Children’s Hospital and the Royal Dental Hospital of Melbourne. She has lectured extensively on children’s dentistry and has contributed to dental publications.

She is particularly interested in Developmental Dental Defects (DDD) or D3, especially “chalky teeth” and has participated in a collaborative study about Molar Hypomineralisation. She is a foundation member of The D3 Group and is involved in education and advocacy initiatives.

Throughout her career, Dr Kan has contributed significantly to her field. She has served as Vice President of the Australasian Academy of Paediatric Dentistry, examiner in paediatric dentistry for the Australian Dental Council, and President, Vice President, and Treasurer of the Australian and New Zealand Society of Paediatric Dentistry Victorian Branch, among other roles. In her free time, she volunteers as a dentist in Cambodia.
