Dr John Chang

Dr John Chang is a highly qualified and dedicated Consultant Eye Surgeon and Ophthalmologist based in Sydney, Australia. He is committed to providing holistic, patient-centred ophthalmic care, combining clinical precision with a reassuring and compassionate approach. Dr Chang believes in taking the necessary time to listen to his patients, ensuring they fully understand their diagnosis and the tailored treatment options available to them. With a strong focus on complex microsurgery, Dr Chang specialises in advanced cataract surgery, particularly for patients with co-existing conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, or uveitis. His expertise encompasses a wide range of advanced interventions, including intraocular anti-VEGF injection therapies, intravitreal slow-release steroid implants, micro-invasive glaucoma surgery, and retinal laser treatments. Dr Chang graduated with First Class Honours in medicine and surgery from the University of New South Wales, where he also completed a Bachelor of Science (Medicine) and a Doctor of Philosophy in Ocular Immunology. He completed his specialist ophthalmology training at major teaching hospitals across Australia, including outreach services in Central Australia. To further refine his expertise, he undertook prestigious subspecialist fellowship training in Medical Retina and Uveitis at Moorfields Eye Hospital in London. Dr Chang is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists and serves as a Board Member of the Korean Australian Medical Society. He is also actively involved in clinical research and the education of future Ophthalmologists.
