Dr Jesse Zanker

Dr Jesse Zanker is a highly dedicated Consultant Physician and Geriatrician who specialises in providing comprehensive care for older adults. With a deep commitment to promoting healthy ageing and maintaining independence, he focuses on addressing the complex medical, physical, and psychological needs of his patients. Dr Zanker has a particular interest in supporting older individuals in rural communities, First Nations Elders, and diverse populations, ensuring they receive compassionate and tailored medical care.

His clinical expertise spans all areas of Geriatric Medicine, with a strong focus on cognitive health, memory concerns, and dementia management. Dr Zanker is also highly skilled in managing mobility issues, frailty, and sarcopenia, which is the age-related loss of muscle mass and function. Additionally, he is passionate about integrating Palliative Medicine into geriatric care to improve quality of life, and he actively addresses mental health challenges in older age, such as depression and anxiety related to declining independence.

Dr Zanker completed his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery, and Bachelor of Medical Science at the University of Melbourne, graduating in 2010. He subsequently undertook advanced training in Geriatric Medicine, qualifying as a Geriatrician and becoming a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 2018. Committed to continuous learning, he also obtained a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine from James Cook University, a Clinical Diploma in Palliative Medicine, and completed a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in 2023 focusing on sarcopenia. Dr Zanker is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine, the Australian Association of Gerontology, and the Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science.
