Dr. Jerry Zhi

Dr. Jerry Zhi is a Registered Social Worker (AASW), NDIS and WorkCover Registered Social Worker, and a dedicated counsellor with 15 years of extensive academic research and clinical experience in social work and counselling. He holds a PhD in Social Work from Griffith University, where his research focused on the social work learning experiences of young Chinese students in China and Australia. Dr. Zhi also serves as a researcher and lecturer at Griffith University and has taught Bachelor of Social Work and Bachelor of Community Services at various universities in Australia.

Dr. Zhi works at Mindspace Consulting, providing counselling services through Telehealth. He is fluent in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

Dr. Zhi specialises in integrating psychological and social work-related interventions, focusing on psychosocial counselling for youth, adolescents, children with special needs, and individuals with disabilities. He also has expertise in helping individuals with psychosocial disabilities obtain ongoing support from the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). His therapeutic approach includes evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing, strengths-based approaches, and systemic theories.

His areas of specialisation include NDIS psycho-social capacity building, early adulthood and adolescent mental health, and complex psychological disorders, including schizophrenia, dissociative identity disorder, autism spectrum disorder, and brain injury. He also offers psycho-social function capacity assessments and reports, supporting applications for NDIS services.
