Dr Jamal Merei

Dr Jamal Merei is a highly accomplished Consultant General Surgeon who provides comprehensive surgical care. With a broad scope of practice, he specialises in both open and minimally invasive procedures, with a particular focus on laparoscopic gastrointestinal surgery. Dr Merei is dedicated to delivering patient-centred care, ensuring that individuals undergoing surgical procedures feel fully informed, supported, and reassured throughout their treatment journey.

His clinical interests span a wide range of general surgical conditions, including upper and lower gastrointestinal disorders, colorectal conditions, and hepato-biliary pathology. Dr Merei is highly skilled in performing advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery, gall bladder surgery, and repairs for abdominal wall and groin hernias. Additionally, he has extensive experience in paediatric surgery and regularly performs diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic procedures, including gastroscopies and colonoscopies.

Dr Merei completed his medical degree (MBChB) and subsequently obtained his Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 1990. He undertook extensive surgical research in the field of birth defects, culminating in a Doctor of Medicine (MD) from the University of Melbourne in 1999. Following this, he completed his Advanced General Surgery training and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2010.
