About Dr Douglas Shaw
Dr. Douglas Shaw is an experienced Endocrine, Head & Neck Surgeon based in Sydney’s Northern Beaches. Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Dr. Shaw completed his Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Genetics at the University of British Columbia before moving to Australia for his medical education at Sydney University. After completing his Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with Honours in 2007, Dr. Shaw undertook resident years at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, gaining valuable clinical experience.
In 2010, Dr. Shaw was awarded a scholarship to pursue a Masters of Surgery at Sydney University, where he focused on investigating the role of sentinel lymph node biopsy in high-risk non-melanoma skin cancers. He completed his general surgery training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2017.
Dr. Shaw further honed his expertise through sub-specialty fellowship training in Surgical Oncology and Sarcoma at Prince of Wales Hospital in 2018, where he focused on endocrine surgery and soft tissue tumours. He also completed a Fellowship in Head and Neck Surgery at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse Hospital.
Currently, Dr. Shaw holds appointments at Northern Beaches Hospital and Macquarie University Hospital. He actively participates in multidisciplinary team meetings for endocrine surgery at both hospitals. His areas of expertise include thyroid and parathyroid surgery, parotid surgery, soft tissue tumour surgery, and skin cancer surgery, including melanoma treatments.
Dr. Shaw is committed to providing compassionate, personalised, and high-quality care to his patients. He values effective communication with his patients, ensuring they are fully informed and understand all aspects of their surgical care. His belief in interdisciplinary collaboration and maintaining strong relationships with GPs ensures optimal outcomes for his patients.

Dr Shaw was patient and thorough in explaining my upcoming procedure.

From my first consult, then my pre-surgery preparations, and post surgery care Dr Shaw was consistent in the most important of ingredients when you are ill. He took great care which requires time.
