Dr Iruka Kumarage

Dr Iruka Kumarage is a highly experienced Obstetrician and Gynaecologist with over 20 years of practice in both the UK and Australia. He completed his specialist training in the UK, focusing on advanced skills in urogynaecology and pelvic floor surgery. After working as a specialist in London and Surrey, he relocated to Australia in 2013, where he has since provided expert care to communities in Ballarat and regional Victoria.

Dr Kumarage offers a broad range of services in obstetrics and gynaecology. His obstetrics practice includes comprehensive pregnancy care, with expertise in managing high-risk pregnancies. In his gynaecology practice, he treats women of all ages with conditions such as menstrual disorders, pelvic pain, including endometriosis and ovarian cysts, as well as managing contraception, menopause, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), fertility concerns, urinary incontinence, and vaginal prolapse. In addition to this, he provides colposcopy services at his consulting rooms for the diagnosis and treatment of abnormal cervical cells.

Dr Kumarage is also an accomplished surgeon, performing various gynaecological procedures, from minor surgeries like hysteroscopy, D&C, and LLETZ, to intermediate surgeries such as operative laparoscopy for endometriosis and ovarian cysts, as well as major procedures including hysterectomy and vaginal prolapse repair.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Kumarage is involved in medical education. He serves on the teaching faculty at both Melbourne and Deakin universities and acts as a Training Supervisor for the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RANZCOG), where he mentors the next generation of specialists. He has also served as an examiner for medical trainees in both Australia and the UK.
