Dr Hari Sugumar

Dr Hari Sugumar is a highly accomplished Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist who is dedicated to providing high-quality, personalised care to his patients. With a patient-centred approach, he focuses on diagnosing and managing complex heart rhythm disorders. His clinical expertise spans a wide range of cardiac conditions, with a particular focus on the management of arrhythmias, pacemaker implantation, and advanced catheter ablation techniques. Dr Sugumar is widely recognised for his approachable manner, ensuring that patients feel supported and well-informed throughout their treatment journey.

Dr Sugumar completed his medical studies at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and a Bachelor of Medical Science (B Med Sci) in 2005. He subsequently undertook specialist training in Cardiology, achieving admission as a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) in 2010. To further his expertise, he completed a Master of Public Health (MPH) and a Graduate Diploma in Cardiac Electrophysiology. Dr Sugumar also completed an advanced clinical fellowship in electrophysiology and cardiac devices in British Columbia, Canada, and earned a PhD in electrophysiology from the University of Melbourne. He is an active member of several professional organisations, including the Australian Medical Association, the Asia Pacific Heart Rhythm Society, the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, and the Heart Rhythm Society.

In addition to his clinical practice, Dr Sugumar is deeply committed to cardiovascular research and academic excellence. His doctoral research focused on atrial fibrillation and its profound impact on heart failure, exploring both reduced and preserved ejection fraction. He has coordinated international randomised controlled trials and multi-centre studies on catheter ablation. His research contributions have been published in some of the world's most prestigious medical journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology.
