Dr Drew Yates

Dr Drew Yates is a highly qualified Consultant Rheumatologist dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred care for individuals experiencing complex musculoskeletal and autoimmune conditions. He believes in fostering a collaborative partnership with his patients, ensuring they are fully informed and actively involved in their treatment decisions. With a clinical approach grounded in the latest medical research, Dr Yates focuses on delivering tailored management plans that aim to optimise long-term health outcomes and improve overall quality of life.

His clinical interests encompass a broad spectrum of rheumatological disorders, with a particular focus on inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and ankylosing spondylitis. Dr Yates also possesses significant expertise in managing gout, polymyalgia rheumatica, vasculitis, and systemic lupus erythematosus. He has presented and published research on lupus nephritis and maintains a strong interest in inflammatory eye disease. Alongside his clinical practice, he serves as a Senior Lecturer, contributing to the education of future medical professionals, and has previously held leadership roles in clinical training for his specialty.

Dr Yates began his academic journey by completing a Bachelor of Engineering with honours in 2008, followed by a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery with honours at the University of Queensland in 2012. He undertook his basic physician training at a major tertiary hospital in Brisbane, before completing advanced training in Rheumatology across several prominent regional and metropolitan hospitals in Queensland. He also served as a Chief Medical Registrar at a major metropolitan hospital, completing this leadership role in 2019. Dr Yates is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and is an active member of the Australian Rheumatology Association.
