Dr Chinthaka Samaranayake

Dr Chinthaka Samaranayake is a Respiratory and Sleep Physician. Dr Samaranayake is highly specialised in minimally invasive advanced bronchoscopic techniques and pulmonary vascular interventions. Dr Samaranayake graduated as top of their class from The University of Auckland Medical School, and completed physician training in Queensland, Australia.

Dr Samaranayake received extensive training and experience, having worked at several Respiratory and Cardiology units across Australia, New Zealand and United Kingdom. Subsequently, they worked as a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital, before returning to Australia in 2023.

Dr Samaranayake's research interests include metabolic modulation of the pulmonary circulation, invasive and non-invasive exercise physiology assessments, and early diagnosis and interventions in lung cancer. Dr Samaranayake has an established research track record in cardio-thoracic medicine, and their PhD research received a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Postgraduate Scholarship.

They have led several investigator-initiated clinical trials as chief investigator, including two randomised controlled trials. They have received numerous clinical and research awards for their work including a highly prestigious European Respiratory Society and APSR Young Investigator Award in 2022.
