About Dr Catherine Hibberd

Dr Catherine Hibberd is an Orthopaedic Surgeon practising in Kogarah, New South Wales, with a subspecialty interest in hip and knee arthroplasty and experience in both adult and paediatric trauma. Her clinical practice includes the management of degenerative joint conditions and acute orthopaedic injuries.

She treats a wide range of orthopaedic conditions affecting the hip and knee, including osteoarthritis requiring joint replacement, ligament injuries, meniscal and cartilage damage, patellar instability, and complex joint conditions requiring revision surgery. She also manages traumatic injuries and fractures in both adult and paediatric populations.

Her clinical work includes surgical procedures such as total hip replacement, revision hip surgery, total knee replacement, revision knee surgery, knee ligament reconstruction, meniscal and cartilage repair, and patella stabilisation procedures. She also provides orthopaedic trauma care at St George Hospital (Level 1 Trauma centre) and Sutherland Hospitals.

Dr Hibberd completed her medical degree at the University of Melbourne and undertook orthopaedic training in Sydney. She was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and the Australian Orthopaedic Association in 2021.

Following completion of her specialist training, she worked as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at St George Hospital, a Level 1 trauma centre, and at Sutherland Hospital, where she was involved in general orthopaedic trauma care. She subsequently completed a clinical fellowship in hip and knee arthroplasty and lower extremity reconstruction at St Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, gaining experience in primary, complex primary, and revision joint replacement surgery.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Hibberd has completed a Master of Surgery (by Research) in Orthopaedic Surgery and a Master of Surgical Education through the University of Melbourne, achieving First Class Honours in both degrees. She has contributed to a number of first-author publications and has presented her research at national and international scientific meetings.

Dr Hibberd is passionate about education and supporting the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. She is actively involved in the supervision and teaching of trainees, and currently serves as Director of Training at St George and Sutherland Hospitals for the national orthopaedic training program (AOA21).
