Professor Angela Makris is a highly regarded Consultant Nephrologist and Obstetric Physician who specialises in renal medicine and the management of medical complications during pregnancy. With a clinical approach that is both reassuring and evidence-based, she dedicatedly supports patients experiencing a wide range of kidney-related conditions. Her dual expertise allows her to provide comprehensive care, particularly for women navigating high-risk pregnancies complicated by renal disorders or hypertension.
Dr Makris completed her medical degree and undertook her advanced specialist training in Sydney. Driven by a commitment to clinical excellence and research, she subsequently obtained a PhD focusing on placental ischaemia and pre-eclampsia. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP). Demonstrating leadership within her field, she has served as the President of the Society of Obstetric Medicine of Australia and New Zealand (SOMANZ) and remains actively involved in national and international guideline committees for hypertension and renal replacement therapy in pregnancy.
As an active Clinician Researcher, Dr Makris is deeply involved in both basic science and clinical trials aimed at improving patient outcomes. Her research efforts focus on developing innovative therapies for the prevention and treatment of pre-eclampsia, as well as enhancing postpartum management.
