Dr Alison Fitz-Gerald

Dr Alison Fitz-Gerald is a dedicated and compassionate Obstetrician and Gynaecologist who provides comprehensive care to women across all stages of life, from adolescence through to menopause and beyond. With a reassuring and patient-centred approach, she is committed to delivering individualised, holistic care that respects each patient's unique health journey. Dr Fitz-Gerald strongly advocates for women's autonomy in their healthcare decisions, working collaboratively with her patients to ensure they feel supported, informed, and safe at every stage of their treatment.

In her obstetric practice, Dr Fitz-Gerald manages both low-risk and high-risk pregnancies, offering expert care for vaginal births, vaginal births after caesarean section, twin pregnancies, and caesarean sections. She is highly skilled in managing early pregnancy complications and obstetric emergencies, always striving to support natural childbirth while maintaining the highest standards of safety. Her gynaecological expertise encompasses a broad range of conditions, including menstrual disturbances, polycystic ovary syndrome, endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and vulval pain. She also provides pre-conceptual counselling, contraception advice, and menopause management. Additionally, she has a keen clinical interest in reducing perineal trauma during childbirth and has actively led regional clinical projects focused on improving birth outcomes.

Dr Fitz-Gerald completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery at Monash University in 2005. She undertook extensive postgraduate training across various medical disciplines, including Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, and General Surgery, before commencing her specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology in 2009. She achieved her Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 2015. Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Fitz-Gerald is deeply involved in medical education and professional mentorship. She serves as a Training Supervisor for specialising doctors, participates in mentor programmes for medical students, and acts as an Academic Examiner.
