Dr Ali Safaa

Dr Ali Safaa is a highly dedicated and compassionate Consultant Cardiologist and Interventional Cardiologist. He specialises in minimally invasive catheter-based procedures designed to treat complex coronary artery disease, aiming to reduce recovery times and improve long-term patient outcomes. With a patient-centred approach, Dr Safaa provides comprehensive consultations, diagnostic assessments, and tailored management plans for a wide range of cardiovascular conditions, including coronary heart disease, heart failure, and cardiac arrhythmias.

Dr Safaa graduated as the top medical student from the University of Babylon, Iraq, where he obtained his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. He then relocated to Australia, completing his basic and advanced cardiology training at prominent tertiary hospitals in Queensland. To further refine his expertise, he undertook intensive fellowship training in interventional cardiology at major medical centres in Western Australia and New Zealand. Dr Safaa is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians, having qualified in 2013, and is a Fellow of the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Throughout his career, Dr Safaa has developed extensive expertise in performing complex percutaneous coronary interventions and diagnostic angiograms, utilising a radial approach for the vast majority of his procedures to enhance patient comfort and safety. He is highly skilled in advanced intracoronary imaging techniques, such as intravascular ultrasound and optical coherence tomography, as well as coronary physiological assessments using fractional flow reserve technology. Additionally, he is experienced in structural heart interventions, including aortic balloon valvuloplasty and patent foramen ovale closures, and is registered to implant coronary bioresorbable vascular scaffolds.
