Dr Ajit Selvendra

Dr Ajit Selvendra is a highly qualified Consultant Psychiatrist who provides comprehensive, patient-centred mental healthcare. With a clinical focus on general adult Psychiatry, he is dedicated to helping individuals navigate complex mental health challenges. Dr Selvendra is particularly recognised for his clinical interest in schizophrenia, first-episode psychosis, and depression with psychotic features. His approach is reassuring and evidence-based, ensuring that each patient receives a personalised treatment plan tailored to their unique circumstances.

Dr Selvendra completed his medical education at the University of Melbourne, graduating with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1993. He went on to complete specialist training in Psychiatry, achieving Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP) in 2001. In addition to his clinical qualifications, he holds an appointment as an Honorary Senior Fellow in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Melbourne, reflecting his ongoing commitment to academic research and medical education.

Beyond his direct clinical work, Dr Selvendra is an active leader in the psychiatric community and a strong advocate for mental health system reform. He serves as a member of the Victorian Branch Committee of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (RANZCP) and is a key contributor to the GP & Psychiatry Liaison Committee, which works to improve shared care models between General Practitioners and Psychiatrists. He has also held leadership roles within professional medical associations, including serving as the Chair of the Section of Psychiatry, where he has contributed to state-wide mental health taskforces and policy initiatives.
