Dr Ajit Kumar

Dr Ajit Kumar is a highly dedicated Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist who provides compassionate, evidence-based mental health care for young people and their families. With a clinical focus on supporting children and adolescents, he specialises in the assessment and treatment of a wide range of mental health difficulties. Dr Kumar is committed to delivering personalised care plans that are practical, supportive, and tailored to the unique needs of each individual.

In his clinical practice, Dr Kumar addresses complex neurodevelopmental disorders, including autism spectrum disorder, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and learning difficulties. He also provides expert care for young people experiencing anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), and early-onset psychosis. Believing in a holistic and collaborative approach to mental health, he works closely with families, schools, General Practitioners, and other Allied Health Professionals to ensure comprehensive support for his patients.

Dr Kumar completed his medical degree, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), and went on to earn a Master of Science in Psychiatry. He completed his specialist training in the United Kingdom, where he was awarded a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr Kumar holds Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych, UK) and is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists (FRANZCP). Alongside his clinical work, he is actively involved in teaching, research, and academic publishing to support the advancement of evidence-informed mental health care.
