Dr Aileen Traves

Dr Aileen Traves is a highly dedicated and compassionate General Practitioner who provides comprehensive, patient-centred care to individuals and families in Cairns North. With a deep commitment to community health, she supports patients of all ages through every stage of life. Dr Traves focuses on active listening, helping patients understand their own bodies and emotional well-being, and delivering tailored medical care that addresses both immediate concerns and long-term health goals.

As a highly skilled General Practitioner, Dr Traves has developed a diverse range of clinical interests. She is particularly passionate about women's health, antenatal care, and sexual health, alongside child and adolescent health. Her expertise also extends to preventative care, health assessments, travel medicine, and seniors' health services. Additionally, she is deeply committed to improving health outcomes for Indigenous communities and has extensive experience in public health, tropical medicine, and palliative care.

Dr Traves completed her medical training at James Cook University, graduating as part of the institution's inaugural cohort of medical students in 2005. She holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS), a Diploma of Child Health (DCH), and a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine (MPHTM). She has also earned a Graduate Certificate of Health Professional Education (Grad Cert HPE). Dr Traves is a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP).

In addition to her clinical work, Dr Traves is heavily involved in medical education and leadership. She serves as a Senior Lecturer and Head of Clinical School at James Cook University, where she enjoys teaching and mentoring the next generation of medical students. She also contributes to the broader medical community as the Deputy Chair of the RACGP Queensland Faculty Council and as a Board Member for a regional health service, advocating for improved primary care and disaster preparedness.
