South West Oncology

South West Oncology has been providing medical oncology services for public and private patients in South West Victoria since 2005. The service is located at the South West Regional Cancer Centre, an integrated facility that also delivers radiotherapy and support services. Patients requiring chemotherapy have the option to receive their treatment at the Cancer Centre at South West Healthcare or at St John of God Hospital.

The clinical team includes medical oncologists with expertise in a broad range of cancers. Specialised areas of practice include the treatment of bowel, breast, lung, and neuroendocrine tumours, as well as melanoma, gastrointestinal, and gynaecological cancers. The oncology team works in conjunction with specialist breast care and chemotherapy nurses, and has access to a comprehensive palliative care service to provide supportive care for patients.

South West Oncology actively participates in a clinical trial programme. This allows patients in the region to access large international research studies without the need to travel to metropolitan centres. The service is a foundational element of the comprehensive cancer services available to the community in the region.
