Mr Abbas' career began in Brisbane, Queensland, where he was selected to join the Basic Surgical Training Program with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons. Completing the Advanced Training Program in General Surgery at the Royal Brisbane Hospital, he was awarded a fellowship in early 2011. He is also recognised by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia (GESA) in 2011 for outstanding achievements in endoscopy surgeries.

Mr Abbas furthered his skills at Geelong Hospital, gaining extensive training in breast, thyroid, colorectal, and bariatric surgery from leading surgeons in these fields. With a passion for cancer surgery, particularly reconstructive (oncoplastic) surgery, Mr Abbas later completed additional training in Paris under the guidance of Dr Krishna Clough, a world-renowned specialist and pioneer in breast cancer and reconstructive breast surgery.
