I found Professor Field to be quite exceptional. He is knowledgeable, extremely experienced and has a skill set that puts him at the very top of orthopaedic practice in the UK. But above all, he is one of the most thoughtful, caring and conscientious consultants I have met. He explains things with frankness and honesty, but does so with real empathy for his patient. He also recognises the significance of the patient's family in the process, ensuring they are kept involved and informed to the extent that this is welcomed by the patient. Professor Field is one of the leading orthopaedic surgeons performing hip surgery and this was clear from the initial consultation. He proposed anterior surgery which relatively few surgeons perform. this proved to be the right approach for me as the hip surgery was very successful. I was mobile almost immediately after surgery and largely pain free. Although I had a small problem with the healing of the wound, Professor Field was very attentive and ensured further problems did not develop
