About Mr Jayesh Thakrar

Jayesh is a London based Podiatrist with many years of experience, working in the field of podiatry, biomechanics and gait analysis for over 15 years. He trained and first practised at University College London and The London Foot Hospital. Working at this prestigious centre of excellence provided Jayesh with invaluable exposure to complex sports and other musculoskeletal cases. After this he went on to pursue further training in the complex area of lower limb biomechanics, involving in-depth analysis of posture, walking, and running styles and relating the findings to how the joints and muscles function.

Having developed unique assessment methods Jayesh embarked on a new venture and set up FOOTSCOPE, of which he is the director and lead clinician, a company specialising in the assessment of lower limb biomechanics. The company now operates two fully equipped gait analysis labs, the second of which is on-site here at the Bowskill Clinic. In addition, Jayesh is involved with undergraduate teaching at the Centre for Clinical Education in Podiatry, University of East London.

His clients are of varying ages and and have a range activity backgrounds. Children suffering from conditions related to skeletal development, those partaking in amateur or professional sports, to people who have symptoms related to their everyday activities. Complaints can range from foot and ankle pain to issues higher up the body or kinetic chain.

Although Jayesh's expertise is complex foot mechanics, he can also use the advanced analysis tools to equate what is happening at the foot level to the rest of the body. Together with his colleagues at the Bowskill Clinic he has established an impressive multi-disciplinary approach to musculoskeletal complications. He finds that simply taking a quick video of someone on a treadmill or a screen shot of a client on pressure sensors does not lead to a meaningful diagnosis. Therefore, Jayesh uses his experience and expert knowledge to interpret what these results mean, allowing him to identify the primary cause of the symptoms and write a tailored and comprehensive report for each individual client, which ensures his approach remains patient centred.

The FOOTSCOPE gait and motion capture lab is on-site at The Bowskill Clinic. In addition to the high speed video and pressure analysis systems, Jayesh now has the most advanced 3D movement analysis equipment. Utilising an array of optical cameras he can objectively measure joint movement and interaction in a way that no other system can. It is considered the gold standard when analysing movement in all dimensions.

When indicated he will prescribe bespoke and functional orthotics/insoles. Normal insoles tend to simply cushion a foot and apply some bulk in the arch area. However the data gathered from a client's analysis will provide Jayesh with the information to prescribe a customised device to modify and improve foot function. This allows the muscles and joints to operate in a more desirable and natural manner, rather than forcing the foot to become almost dormant and reliant on the device. This in turn leads to a more comfortable return to activities.

Jayesh was thorough, articulate and took his time to explain everything slowly and in detail. Highly recommended.

Jay was very thoughtful, thorough, and interested in my foot problem. He carried out careful examination of my feet and sorted my problem by organising a bespoke pair of insoles. These are a great fit and have really helped my left foot to be able to function properly again. I am very grateful to him and found him very professional throughout the experience. I would certainly recommend him.

Jayesh came recommended by a friend after I sustained an injury walking and running. I was planning on climbing Snowdon only a few months after the injury and Jayesh gave me excellent advice, exercises, follow up appointment and insoles which literally got me to the summit and back!! I have no hesitation in recommending him, the office in Harrow is easy to get to, staff are extremely friendly and overall I was very impressed. He will forever be my 'go to' relating to any foot matters.

Thanks to his custom insoles, this avoided highly disruptive complicated surgery, never thought that this would be possible, therefore highly recommended.

I took my teenage son to Jayesh as he had painful ankles when walking and this stopped him participating in sporting activities and sometimes meant he had to rest for days at a time. Jayesh was very kind and listened to my son's problems. He suggested various treatments we could try and we opted for the full analysis. Jayesh explained everything thoroughly to both me and my son and showed us why my son was feeling discomfort and pain. He then suggested we have customised insoles. As my son was growing he made sure that these would not have to be changed all the time. My son has now worn the insoles for a couple of years, and I can honestly say that they have changed his life. He has not had any injuries, joint or ankle pains since wearing them. He now participates in school sports, is on the basketball team and enjoys jogging. This has helped his confidence through his teenage years and I think had we not seen Jayesh he would have struggled with a lot of pain, perhaps been unfit and lacking in confidence. I cannot thank Jayesh enough for his diagnosis and treatment plan. He is very easy to talk to, accommodating with appointments and extremely knowledgeable. I would not hesitate to recommend Jayesh and if anyone in our family needed him in the future we would definitely go to him again.

I was referred to Mr Thakrar by my consultant for biomechanics and gait analysis of my foot with the view to insoles. It was amazing how he obtained the analysis of my feet, even taking into account my posture and how I walked. After a number of visits to get the temporary insoles correct, during that time he listened to everything I said and gave me advice of the type of footwear I would now have to wear. My new insoles have proved to be so comfortable and I know if I have any problems he is and the end of the phone. I would highly recommend Mr Thakrar for 'made to measure' insoles
