Mr Dhanwant Gomez is a consultant hepato-pancreato-biliary (HPB) surgeon with significant expertise in complex liver and pancreas surgery as well as day-case laparoscopic procedures such as gallbladder removal and hernia repair. At present, he is the clinical lead for Neuroendocrine Tumors at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust and East Midlands representative for the British Association of Surgical Oncology (BASO). Previously, he was the HPB Cancer and Governance Lead, as well as the lead for the East Midlands HPB Expert Committee Advisory Group.

Mr Gomez graduated from Leeds University School of Medicine in 2002 before completing basic surgical training at the Yorkshire School of Surgery. Following this, he gained membership of the Royal College of Surgeons and spent the next two years conducting research on liver regeneration for which he earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD). His HPB experience includes training at Leeds and Nottingham, as well as spending a year at the Hepato-biliary Unit of Aintree Teaching Hospital and the Pancreas Unit of Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals where he gained expertise in liver, biliary, and pancreatic surgery. In 2014, he joined Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust as a substantive consultant HPB and laparoscopic surgeon.

Mr Gomez is actively interested in liver cancer research and has published extensively on HPB surgery. Besides training junior trainee surgeons, he is also currently an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Nottingham, where he is involved in research of molecular markers of cholangiocarcinoma and medical devices in surgery.
