From the get go he didn’t seem interested in helping my daughter, I had to book my daughter in for bloods myself and I am still waiting the results from them being taken two weeks ago. He told me he’d phone when bloods came in to discuss a clinical plan going forward. I’m no further along from having bloods done at our local gp in November and my first contact with Kingsbridge in early Dec, we are now in February.

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback. Im sorry you feel I didn’t seem interested in helping your daughter. In fact, this was very much the opposite. It was unfortunate that you were not advised by your insurance company to bring the blood test results completed at your GP practice with you to the consultation. It is very helpful to me when parents bring me investigations already completed in order to have a meaningful consultation. Unfortunately, the bloods completed that were later shared with me were not adequate. I and the nursing staff were grateful that you agreed to then contact us and attend for repeated blood work at a time that suited you and your daughter so not to interfere with school or work. These results were communicated to you and acted on, resulting in further invasive investigations needing completed per best practice evidence-based guidelines in a timely manner with results made available, all within 4 weeks. I was happy to have addressed your concern and rule in/out any diagnostic uncertainty for your daughter given the wait you had prior to seeing me.

Mr Henderson made my young son feel very comfortable. He asked lots of questions to understand the issue and made the whole appointment fun for my son.

I was extremely upset and annoyed that I paid for a private paediatric service and was in for only 10 minutes. I have a very unsettled baby that most will agree there must be something wrong as he is so distressed day and night. On arriving into my appointment the doctor scanned my pre filled sheet to note my main concern was skull deformity. He took the time to feel his skull and do some motor checks but other than that, he did not want to know any other information and he declined to watch the video of my distressed child that occurs on a daily basis. I felt reassured that he was happy with the shape of his head but I imagined paying private he may have wanted to investigate why my baby was so unsettled instead of putting it down to just an unsettled baby. Since this appointment my child has continued to be extremely unsettled, I never got to discuss his cough he has had since birth, his ongoing feeding issues and sleeping issues since birth or his diarrhoea he has had for 10 weeks altho we touched on his formula changes. I thought privately paying for a service the consultant would look at my child holistically but instead it was a waste of my time coming from the other end of the country and my money where I am no further forward. He advised I'd be safe to take him to Greece as planned which I dread due to his unsettledness. On leaving my appointment I was very emotional and upset as I left the clinic. As I nurse myself I expected more privately but I will await my public appointment and hope I get further there as I'm sure if there is no cranial issue with my baby then there must be something gastrointestinal and further investigations and discussions are needed

Thank you for taking the time to provide feedback for your consultation that was appointed for 30min. Thank you for completing the new patient questionnaire while awaiting the start of your appointment. The questionnaire allows the family time to firstly outline their concern(s) that they would like me to address on the front page, so I do not miss this. The following questions ask about current and previous medical/surgical conditions, investigations done that results are pending, allergies, medication and vaccination history, birth and antenatal history, social and family history, developmental and education issues as well as parent details and some health promotion questions. Finally, there is a question asking about symptomology of the whole body with an additional area for the parent to elaborate if needed so that I address every patient I meet holistically. You volunteered on the form, that your GP was managing reflux for the irritable symptoms you described and videoed. Your child was very settled in clinic. I have 4 children of my own – so I can certainly empathise with any parent managing a crying child. Your GP was managing this appropriately per best clinical evidence. I agreed with their management, mentioning this to you in the consultation and report, so I had nothing to change. I am happy to hear that you were reassured of the concern for which you brought your child to see me for. As a healthcare provider yourself, you will be aware that doctors provide the same care to all their patients, whether the parent is paying for the care or not. I am very happy and fortunate to offer this service in my “off” time while working full time in the NHS to help those waiting longer than they should. I also welcome second opinions, as many of my colleagues will also do when/if needed. I therefore hope your NHS appointment addressed any additional concerns you have had with your son.
