I completed my higher training in General Adult Psychiatry from Bombay University in 1986 followed by membership of The Royal College of Psychiatrists and thereafter held senior registrar appointments at Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals London.
I was appointed to a substantive consultant post in 1995 and since 2004 manage a psychiatric intensive care unit at Lambeth Hospital, South London and Maudsley NHS Trust. I have a keen interest in transcultural psychiatry and towards this supervise a specialist team in providing treatments to patients with origins in the Indian sub-continent. I am a Liaison Psychiatrist to the Medical Toxicology clinic at Guy's hospital where we attend to patients with health concerns arising from exposure to chemicals. Between 2008- 2011, I was a visiting consultant Psychiatrist to the Practitioner Health Programme, a NHS Service providing mental health care to sick Doctors and dentists in London.
I maintain an interest in the study of the biological and psychotherapeutic schools of psychiatry and in keeping with this utilise an integrated treatment model in delivering care.
I am able to communicate in several Indian languages and regularly treat patients from other cultures especially those from The USA, Middle East and The Indian Sub-Continent.
I have been in private practice since 2000.
