I cannot fault the receptionist, the nurses, the anaesthetist and his team, the after op team in the recovery room, the physiotherapists, the cleaners, the caterers and all the staff. Everyone was friendly, alert, extremely competent, cheerful and really keen to help with pain and recovery and independence and restoring self belief after the op. I loved how they help with the feeling of normality and safety. I felt really welcomed, cared for and I felt that everyone knew exactly what they were doing. The deep cleaning of cubicles was very, very impressive too. Well done, Duchy Hospital and thank you all for your help. I really appreciate all that you have done for me. PS - really, really sorry about the poor I had to give on the wait time. I do not see this as your fault, at all. I appreciate the pandemic causing delays, the growing elderly population needing operations, I support the strikes and the need for better wages for NHS staff. Also, I fully appreciate that the The Duchy actually helped to reduce my wait time - as I had been scheduled for St Michael's in Hayle. I have been living with arthritis for 3 years which has felt like such a long time. The pandemic affected the face to face appointments and delays occurred as phone calls had to suffice at the time! From diagnosis to operation was actually two years. Two years seems a long time, when an acquaintance of mine in the Netherlands waited 4 months between diagnosis and the op. Living with arthritis really affected my ability to walk and to work and a decrease of earnings has been a problem. Anyway, I do thank you all for everything. The wait time problem has affected many, and not just me, and I know you are all doing everything in your power to help as many people as possible - you have my utmost respect. Thank you, all, so much.

Excellent facility where all staff provide excellent care and it was refreshing to see everyone taking such pride in their work. It is clear to see that The Duchy hospital's staff are pleased to be working within that environment and are outwardly happy in their work. Many thanks to all staff

I was generally impressed with the expertise and warm, caring approach of clinical and non-clinical team members. Just a couple of negative reflections: on my first night I was wearing mechanical compression socks. The pumps are so noisy it is impossible to sleep. I asked a nurse if my pump was faulty but she said that all pumps were the same and most patients lost a whole night's sleep just as I did. During the following night, I suffered from gastric issues and had to go to the bathroom three times. I reported this to the night nurse when she visited. I eventually got to sleep at around 3am. The night nurse was aware I had lost almost two nights of sleep and was utterly exhausted but nevertheless, she woke me at around 0615. A day shift nurse asked me how I was and I complained about the night nurse to be told I was roused simply because the night staff were awake and that there was no reason I should not have been allowed to sleep for longer. Disappointing.
Thank you for taking the time to let us know how we did. I do hope you are recovering well. Please contact us if you require any information. The use of mechanical prophylaxis(leg pumps) is advocated by the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence ( NICE) to reduce venous statis, protecting you from harmful blood clots after hip surgery. A plastic sleeve is placed around your legs and they inflate and every 20-60 secs they deflate, helping blood move through your body to your heart. When they relax, oxygen rich blood flows to your leg arteries. The noise is associated with the physical inflation and deflation of the pumps, and unfortunately there is no way of reducing this noise. I am sorry they kept you awake. We are very sorry that the day nurse made such a thoughtless and ridiculous comment, all our patients are checked at intervals more so in the early post operative stage. We will be reminding all of our staff about empathising and thoughtfulness. We are very sorry that this silly and unprofessional behaviour marred your experience. With kind regards Louise Rowbotham, Hospital Director
