Dr. Tamer Saafan

Dr Tamer Saafan is a Consultant General and Bariatric Surgeon with over 20 years of experience. He currently practices at Saudi German Hospital Dubai, UAE.

Dr Saafan completed his MBBS at Ain Shams University, Egypt, followed by a Master of Surgery degree in 2006 and his MD in 2015 at the same university. He also received a PhD in Bariatric Surgery at Ain Shams University, Egypt. He later completed two post-qualification fellowships. One at the International College of Robotic Surgeons and Minimal Access Surgeries and the other in Bariatric Surgery in Taiwan. He is also a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland.

During his Fellowship in Taiwan, Dr Saafan was supervised by the renown Professor Lee who developed Minigastric Bypass Surgery.

In his current practice, he typically sees patients with health conditions caused by morbid obesity, including the following conditions:

• Severe sleep apnoea and other sleep disorders
• Heart and cardiovascular disease
• Hypertension
• Type II diabetes
• Chronic acid reflux
• Stroke

To further develop his skills and expertise in bariatric surgery, Dr Saafan has attended several conferences, seminars and is currently completing a Clinical Master's in Surgical Endoscopy. He has presented his work in both nationally and internationally and is recognised for his academic excellence.
