Dr. Salma B.A Abdo

Dr. Salma B.A. Abdo is a highly accomplished Consultant Endodontist with extensive academic, clinical, and leadership experience in Conservative Dentistry, Endodontics, and surgical Endodontics. Over the years, she has built a distinguished career in clinical management, dental education, research, and mentoring within leading healthcare institutions and universities.

Her expertise spans a wide range of endodontic treatments, including non-surgical and surgical endodontic procedures, retreatments, and conservative dentistry. She is also proficient in laser-assisted dental procedures, having obtained American Board Certification in Laser Dentistry. Her skills include frenectomy, gingivectomy, exposure of impacted teeth, bleaching, TMJ treatment, oral disease management, root canal sterilisation, removal of soft tissue overgrowth, depigmentation, and various hard tissue procedures. With her deep knowledge of laser dentistry, she has successfully performed pain-free, minimally invasive treatments with no bleeding, offering significant advantages over conventional surgical techniques. DR. Abdo has obtained the privilege of implantology certification, and she also is currently performing implants under general anaesthesia at Mediclinic Al Jowhara.

Dr. Abdo has held numerous leadership roles throughout her career, most notably serving as the Head of the Endodontic Department at Ambulatory Healthcare Services, Tawam Hospital, affiliated with Johns Hopkins Medicine. In this role, she played a key part in shaping endodontic treatment strategies, conducting outcome assessments, leading faculty development, and enhancing the quality of dental care. She was also a member of the JCIA committee, where she analysed treatment errors and contributed to improving endodontic success rates.

Her contributions to dental education are equally notable. As a Senior Endodontic Lecturer, Course Coordinator, and Clinical Manager at Ajman University of Science and Technology, she developed comprehensive curricula, mentored postgraduate MFDS residents (affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons, Ireland), and introduced innovative training methods for automated rotary endodontic devices. She has also played a pivotal role in guiding student research and facilitating clinical training.

Dr. Abdo is actively involved in dental research and professional committees. She has served as a Member and Examiner for the Examinations and Licensing Committee of the Abu Dhabi Dental Council under the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD), ensuring high standards in professional licensure assessments. Additionally, she has led the Dental Research Committee at AHS, contributing to advancements in endodontic techniques and treatment protocols.

Currently, Dr. Abdo is a Consultant Endodontist at Mediclinic (Al Madar and Al Jowhara Hospitals in Al Ain, as well as Park View Hospital in Dubai), where she continues to provide expert care in endodontics, implantology and conservative dentistry. She is also dedicated to treating medically compromised patients, young adults, and those requiring general anaesthesia or nitrous oxide sedation for their procedures.
