Dr. Richard Baker

Dr Richard Baker is a UK-trained Consultant Plastic Surgeon based at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City in Abu Dhabi. He is dedicated to providing a modern, evidence-based, and patient-centred practice. He specialises in hand and wrist surgery, the correction of abnormalities in children, reconstructive surgery including free tissue transfer, skin lesion removal, body contouring (removal of excess skin after weight loss), breast surgery and cosmetic surgery.

Dr Baker gained his medical degree from Cambridge University in 2000 before undertaking plastic surgery training at some of London's most prestigious units, including Chelsea and Westminster, Mount Vernon, the Royal Free, and Queen Victoria. He gained his fellowship in plastic surgery with the Royal College of Surgeons in 2012 and went on to complete advanced fellowships in Reconstructive Cosmetic Surgery and Hand and Wrist Surgery, earning his European Diploma of Hand Surgery in 2014.

During his training, Mr Baker spent time at renowned institutions such as the E'Da Hospital in Taiwan, the Kleinert Institute in Louisville, and Santander in Spain. He has also conducted research into ways to reduce skin scarring and has published numerous articles in the field of plastic surgery. Additionally, he has authored a number of books and book chapters. 

Dr Baker became a Consultant in the UK at Wexham Park Hospital in 2015. As well as his NHS public practice, he had a successful private practice in Windsor and London focusing on cosmetic surgery. He moved with his family to Abu Dhabi in 2023 and joined Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City. In his free time he likes to spend time with his family at the beach club, play racquet sports (loves Padel), rowing, reading, art and learning Arabic.
