Dr. Ravi Trehan

Dr Ravi Trehan is a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon and Dean of Research at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC) in Abu Dhabi. He also serves as Medical Director of the Patient Admission and Transfer Centre and the Referring Physician Office. With more than three decades of experience, he is recognised as a highly accomplished orthopaedic surgeon who places patient-centred care at the heart of his practice.

Originally trained in the United Kingdom, Dr Trehan specialises in arthroscopy, arthroplasty and trauma surgery. He performed SSMC’s first navigation and artificial intelligence-assisted robotic reverse shoulder replacement. His extensive training includes double fellowships as well as prestigious trauma fellowships in Germany and Austria.

Dr Trehan is an active researcher with numerous publications and ongoing research projects. He serves as co-chair of the Institutional Review Board (IRB) committee, demonstrating his dedication to ethical, evidence-based practice. He also holds adjunct academic appointments as Associate Professor at Khalifa University in Abu Dhabi and at Gulf Medical University in Ajman. In addition, he is an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of England and hosted the first MRCS examination in Abu Dhabi at SSMC.

His academic achievements include a Master’s degree in International Healthcare Management and Leadership from Manchester Business School and a Postgraduate Certificate in Medical Education from the University of Cambridge. Alongside his clinical and academic work, Dr Trehan has held several senior management roles, contributing to service development and hospital leadership. He actively participates in multiple hospital committees at SSMC, with a strong focus on patient safety, quality improvement and evidence-based clinical standards.

Beyond his professional work, Dr Trehan has been involved in charitable initiatives in India and was awarded a Silver Jubilee Award by his medical school in 2015 in recognition of his national and international contributions.
