Dr Mohan Rangaswamy

Dr Mohan Rangaswamy is a consultant Plastic surgeon working in Dubai. He is well-known for his expertise in his field and for managing even complex cases successfully. He currently sees patients at the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital, Dubai.

During his formative years, he first trained to be a General Surgeon and later worked in a reputed surgical unit where in addition to complex cases of general surgery, advanced reconstructive surgery, microvascular flap surgery and Kidney Transplantation were also performed. This unique experience set the stage for him to gain admission to a fellowship training program in plastic and reconstructive surgery (including hand surgery) at a reputed institute of India. He was later selected to join a teaching job at University hospital in Oman where he taught medical students and surgical trainees and also advanced the scope of cosmetic surgery. He trained himself in the new field of minimal access surgery and even developed a new laparoscopic method to reconstruct the vagina in cases of congenital absence of vagina. This technique was published in the European Journal of OB-GYN as a world first. He moved to Dubai in 2002.

In a professional career spanning 30 years, he has been active in both aesthetic and reconstructive surgery. He is well respected in his specialty and is invited for guest lectures and presentations.

In cosmetic surgery his expertise includes the following:

He is recognised as an innovator who developed lipoabdominoplasty in 1995 before it was even published in the literature. In this type of advanced tummy tuck a full liposuction and tummy tuck are done simultaneously with safety and without even using any drains. He has an unbroken record of zero major complications in tummy tucks over 25 years. Safety of patients is his paramount concern and for this reason he may postpone the surgery till the patient is medically optimized, sometimes he may even advise against a surgery.

He is well-known for doing corrections for cosmetic surgeries that went wrong or had some complications. In this, his knowledge of reconstructive surgery and his long experience come in very useful.

In the reconstructive arena, he has interests in tissue expansion, burn reconstruction, breast reconstruction, regenerative stem cell therapy and wound care. He also deals with children having birth defects requiring plastic surgery.

He is a member of the Association of plastic surgeons of India as well as important international bodies: ISAPS, ASPS (intl.), EMA-PSS, Indian Society for Surgery of the Hand, Indian Society of Peripheral Nerve Surgery, AO-CMF (Swiss) among others.

He is a speaker on many national and international fora and has presented over 100 papers. He has authored a chapter on abdominoplasty and co-authored a chapter on applications of regenerative surgery in ‘The textbook of plastic surgery' published by Thieme.
