Dr. Millicent Grim

Dr. Millicent M. Grim is a Consultant Ophthalmologist and LASIK Specialist. Dr. Grim's academic journey began with degrees in Medicine and Ophthalmology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, complemented by a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg.

Early in her career, she served as the associate head of the Department of Ophthalmology at The Pretoria Academic Hospitals. During this time, she conducted numerous rural eye tours, providing essential surgical care, including cataract surgeries, in underserved regions. Her dedication extended beyond her home country when she served as a locum Consultant Ophthalmologist in Queen Margaret Hospital in Dunfermline and Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, Scotland.

In 1996, Dr. Grim undertook the significant role of starting the new Eye Department at Al Shatti Hospital in Muscat, Sultanate of Oman. This was the first comprehensive consultant-based private hospital in Oman. Under her leadership, she introduced Refractive Surgery to the country in 1997, along with several other pioneering eye surgery procedures in private practice, significantly expanding the department.

Following her successes in Oman, Dr. Grim moved to Dubai in 2002 to establish the Gulf Eye Center in the Fairmont Hotel’s Office Suites. Here, she continued her innovative work, including the introduction of Corneal Collagen Cross Linking for Keratoconus and NearVisionCK for Presbyopia to the UAE.

Her contributions to medical literature include publications on Pharmacology, Eye Care in Sports Medicine, and pioneering work on Excimer Laser ablation. Dr. Grim's personal experiences, particularly regarding her son's progressive myopia, spurred her interest in Myopia Control, leading to her advocacy for Ortho-Keratology, which has since become a key focus for managing myopia among teenagers and adults at her clinic.
