Dr. Michael Rebeiro

Dr Michael Rebeiro is a highly experienced Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with over two decades of clinical experience, he currently practices at Royal Medical Centre One Day Surgery. Registered to practise in Abu Dhabi, Kenya, South Africa and the UK, he has built an international career spanning leading academic institutions and specialist centres across Africa and the Middle East.

After graduating from medical school in 2003, Dr Rebeiro began his surgical career at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Johannesburg. He subsequently completed a fellowship in breast reconstruction and aesthetic surgery under Dr James van der Merwe, followed by a fellowship in hand and lower limb reconstruction under Dr Craig Woodstock, where he assisted in more than 900 complex surgical procedures. In 2017, he entered private practice at Bokamoso Private Hospital in Gaborone, Botswana.

Dr Rebeiro later served as Consultant Plastic Surgeon and Senior Lecturer at the University of Pretoria and Steve Biko Academic Hospital, where he led the microsurgery, hand surgery, and head and neck reconstruction services. Alongside his clinical responsibilities, he trained undergraduate and postgraduate medical students, and coordinated national microsurgical training symposia for surgical residents.

Relocating to Kenya, he established Rebeiro Plastic Surgery, providing reconstructive, trauma and aesthetic procedures, while also serving as the national trainer for the WALANT Hand Surgery Programme. He also participated in and hosted the South African Residency Microsurgical Skills Programme. His entrepreneurial interests led him to found and partner with medical tourism clinics in Botswana and Kenya, including Diani Beach Hospital.

Following his move to Abu Dhabi, Dr Rebeiro practised at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City, Burjeel Medical City and American Cosmetic Medical Centre, before joining Royal Medical Centre One Day Surgery. In these roles he contributed to published research and helped Leadership positions such as Director of Plastic Surgery. 

Committed to remaining at the forefront of plastic surgery, Dr Rebeiro regularly attends national and international training courses focused on reconstructive microsurgery and aesthetic surgery. He completed the 20th International Course on Perforator Flaps and Lymphedema Workshop in Hong Kong in 2019 and has both attended and presented at numerous national and international scientific congresses.

Dr Rebeiro has also undertaken facial reanimation and paediatric congenital anomaly surgeries for charitable organisations. He is a member of several professional organisations, including the Colleges of Medicine of South Africa (CMSA), the Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons of South Africa, and the South African Society for Surgery of the Hand (SASSH). His practice is centred on applying the latest surgical techniques to simplify complex reconstructive challenges while achieving the best possible outcomes for his patients.
