Prof. Dr. Hamdi Farag

Dr Hamdi Farag is a highly experienced Consultant General Surgeon specialising in oncosurgery, laparoscopic surgery, and bariatric surgery, with over 16 years of practice in Egypt and Saudi Arabia. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine at Al Azhar University, Egypt, in 2005 and completed a three-year residency program in general surgery at Al Azhar University Hospitals. Dr Farag earned his Master’s degree in General Surgery and Laparoscopy in 2009, followed by a Doctorate (MD) in General and Laparoscopic Surgery in 2014. He currently serves as an Assistant Professor of General and Laparoscopic Surgery at Al Azhar University.

Dr Farag's expertise spans a wide range of surgical procedures. In the field of bariatric surgery, he performs laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy, mini gastric bypass, Sasi operations, and redo surgeries for various bariatric procedures. His experience in gastrointestinal surgery includes laparoscopic cholecystectomy, appendectomy, splenectomy, hiatus hernia repair, and the excision of colorectal and gastric tumours. He is also skilled in endocrine and breast surgeries, such as the excision of breast masses and cancer, thyroid surgery, and salivary and parotid gland surgeries.

In addition to these specialties, Dr Farag is proficient in general surgeries, including hernia repair (inguinal, umbilical, paraumbilical, epigastric, and incisional hernias), diabetic foot and wound management, and rectal and anal surgeries. He employs advanced techniques like laser and harmonic haemorrhoidectomy, fissurectomy, and fistulectomy, as well as the excision of pilonidal sinuses using rhomboid flap surgery.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Farag has published numerous papers in international scientific journals and has been a speaker at conferences across the Middle East and Europe.
