Dr. Gilbert Ayoub

Dr. Gilbert Ayoub is the Chairman of the Surgical Department and OT Theatre, Head of the General Surgery Departmentand is leading the Thyroid Unit.

He is a Consultant General Surgeon at NMC Royal Hospital. With over 24 years of experience, he is a highly skilled surgeon specialising in general, visceral, and advanced laparoscopic surgery.

Education

Dr. Ayoub earned his medical degree from Kazan Medical University in Russia and completed his Master’s in General/Visceral Surgery at St. Marien Hospital in Siegen, Germany, an academic teaching hospital of the University of Marburg.

Main clinical fields

Dr. Ayoub has extensive experience in performing a wide range of surgeries, including hernia repairs, appendectomies, cholecystectomies, colon resections, and non-cardiac thoracic surgeries like thoracoscopy and lung resections. He is also highly experienced in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries, having conducted over 600 thyroid surgeries annually during his tenure at St. Marien Hospital.

The main focus of his practice is on laparoscopic Surgery procedures such as cholecystectomy, colectomy, appendectomy, splenectomy, inguinal hernias repair, incisional and ventral hernia repair with Ventral Patch or IPOM, laparoscopic oncologic surgery (Among other Sigmoid- and rectum resection, right and left Hemicolectomy ), minimal invasive thyroid and Parathyroid Surgery with Nerve monitoring. Varicose Vein surgeries.

Leadership

In his current role at NMC Royal Hospital, Dr. Ayoub leads a multidisciplinary team, ensuring high-quality surgical care and overseeing the operations of the General Surgery Department. He is a member of the Arab Medical Union in Europe, the German Society of Surgery, and the German Society of Visceral Surgery, and is dedicated to providing patient-centered, compassionate care with a focus on innovative surgical techniques.
