About Dr Asfar Afridi

Dr Asfar Afridi is an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist at Medcare Medical Centre Jumeirah with over 20 years of experience. He completed his medical graduation in 1999. He then moved to Dublin, Ireland, and completed further training within the Royal College of Psychiatrists (UK) accredited programme.

In 2007, he became Member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom and in 2009, became Member of the College of Psychiatrists in Ireland. In addition Dr Afridi also completed Diploma in Clinical Psychiatry from Royal College of Physicians (2004), Diploma in Management for Medical Doctors from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (2009), a Higher Diploma in Psychotherapy Studies from University College Dublin (2008), and received his Certificate of Completion of Specialist Training (CCST) in General Adult Psychiatry (2013) from the College of Psychiatrists in Ireland. He practiced as a Consultant Psychiatrist in Brunei from 2013 to 2017 and in Ireland between 2018 and 2023 before relocating to the UAE.

In addition the Royal College of Psychiatrists in the United Kingdom has awarded him the Fellowship of the College as mark of distinction and recognition of his contributions to field of psychiatry.

Dr Afridi has expertise in a wide range of mental health conditions, which include post-traumatic stress disorder, adjustment disorders, eating disorders, ADHD, delusional disorders, bipolar affective disorders, and personality disorders. He is also trained in grief, depression, stress, suicidal ideation, schizophrenia, postnatal depression, and addiction, as well as the management of anxiety disorders, panic disorders, phobias, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), post-partum psychosis, and behavioural and psychological symptoms in dementia.

Alongside his clinical work at Medcare, Dr Afridi has a keen interest in cultural psychiatry and mental health awareness. He has written and produced an award-winning short film addressing how childhood trauma manifests in different cultures.
