Dr. Ali Ibrahim Shorbagi

Dr Ali Ibrahim Shorbagi is an accomplished gastroenterologist and academic physician with more than 25 years of postgraduate clinical experience, over 20 years of medical teaching, and more than 18 years of endoscopy experience, including 10,000+ procedures. He is European Board-certified in Gastroenterology and Hepatology and a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.

He currently serves as Associate Professor of Medicine and Director of University Medical Clinics at the University of Sharjah, alongside clinical roles as a Gastroenterology Senior Specialist at University Hospital Sharjah and the University of Sharjah Specialized Medical Center. His previous international experience includes senior gastroenterology roles in Qatar, Northern Cyprus and Turkey.

Dr Shorbagi has broad expertise in gastrointestinal and liver disease, inflammatory bowel disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, hepatobiliary disorders and advanced endoscopy. His procedural experience includes upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, polypectomy, treatment of variceal and non-variceal bleeding, PEG placementa and capsule endoscopy. Dr Shorbagi has an extensive academic portfolio with dozens of peer-reviewed publications, international conference contributions and a book chapter on chronic hepatitis B. His research spans gastroenterology, hepatology, inflammatory bowel disease, medical education, pharmacogenetics and healthcare innovation. His CV reports an h-index of 17 on Google Scholar.

He is also active in community service as a registered volunteer physician with the UAE Red Crescent – Sharjah Branch and the Sharjah Volunteer Center. Dr Shorbagi’s approach combines extensive clinical experience, advanced endoscopic expertise and evidence-based gastroenterology care. He places emphasis on careful diagnosis, clear patient communication and selecting the most appropriate medical or endoscopic treatment for each individual.
