Dr. Ali Reza Eghtedari

Dr Ali Reza Eghtedari is a leading laparoscopic surgeon with more than 25 years’ experience working across some of the UAE’s most prominent hospitals. Over the course of his career, he has played a pivotal role in advancing minimally invasive surgery in the region, including performing the first laparoscopic gynaecological surgeries at the Iranian Hospital and introducing laparoscopic techniques in abdominal trauma and cancer surgery. During his tenure at Rashid Hospital, he pioneered 11 new laparoscopic procedures.

In 2010, Dr Eghtedari established the comprehensive laparoscopic department at Canadian Hospital, where he led the introduction of complex procedures such as colon resections, hiatal hernia repairs and laparoscopic cancer surgeries. His leadership and commitment to service development were later recognised by King’s College Hospital, which honoured him for his contribution to establishing clinics and delivering surgical care under challenging conditions following the hospital’s opening in 2019. He has also spearheaded the launch of the hernia clinic at Mediclinic Parkview Hospital, further strengthening specialised surgical services in the UAE.

Dr Eghtedari’s contributions to innovation in laparoscopy have been recognised internationally by the German Society of General Surgeons and by Canadian Hospital. He has also received multiple awards, including the Distinguished Employee Award from DHA Rashid Hospital for four consecutive years and a humanitarian award from the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable and Humanitarian Foundation.

Alongside his clinical work, Dr Eghtedari has mentored and trained numerous resident doctors in advanced laparoscopic techniques and regularly contributes to medical conferences and workshops, supporting the dissemination of best practice and the continued development of minimally invasive surgery.
