Dr. Afreen Shameem

Dr Afreen Shameem is a Specialist Orthodontist working in UAE for more than 15 years. Since graduating from dental school in 1999, she has built an extensive career spanning Pakistan and the UAE, providing comprehensive orthodontic care for patients of all ages. She has a particular interest in the management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) dysfunction and rehabilitation, dental sleep medicine, and nasoalveolar moulding for infants born with cleft lip and palate. In 2022, she completed a Fellowship in TMD, Orofacial Pain and Dental Sleep Medicine through Roseman University and Smile USA Academy, USA.

Dr Shameem began her clinical career in Karachi, Pakistan, where she worked as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Orthodontics and Consultant Orthodontist at Baqai Dental College, Baqai Medical University, while also practising at Abdullah Dental Surgery. She later became a Specialist Orthodontist at Medident Clinics before relocating to Dubai, where she worked at Riaz Medical Centre. She later practiced at NMC Royal Medical & Dental Center in Ras Al Khaimah. Presently she is working at MedCity Medical Center in Ras Al Khaimah and in Dubai she is practicing at Zia Medical Center and Al Tadawi Specialty Hospital.

Alongside her clinical practice, Dr Shameem has remained actively involved in research and academia. She has contributed to peer-reviewed publications in many indexed and non indexed journals.

Passionate about education, Dr Shameem has taught undergraduate and postgraduate students in Pakistan as well as in UAE. She has conducted different workshops and lectures throughout her career in Pakistan and UAE.

Committed to continuing professional development, Dr Shameem has completed additional training in biomechanics and wire bending, Invisalign, temporary anchorage devices (TADs), and MBT mechanics and treatment. She regularly attends workshops focused on orthodontic biomechanics, oral health promotion and dental aesthetics to ensure she remains up to date with the latest techniques and advances in orthodontics. Alongside this she is a member of the Emirates Orthodontic Society, the Pakistan Association of Orthodontists, the Pakistan Dental Association and the Pakistan Medical and Dental Association.
