Dr. Wern Yew Ding

Dr Ding is a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist in Melbourne with subspecialty expertise in Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiac Devices and Inherited Cardiac Conditions. Dr Ding is an AHPRA-registered specialist in Cardiology and holds UK dual specialist accreditation in Cardiology and General Internal Medicine. He previously worked as a Consultant Cardiologist and Electrophysiologist at a high-volume tertiary cardiac centre in the UK before completing an Electrophysiology Fellowship at The Royal Melbourne Hospital.

Dr Ding’s clinical practice focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders (arrhythmias), including atrial fibrillation (AF), atrial flutter, atrial tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia (SVT), ventricular tachycardia (VT) and heart block. He performs electrophysiology studies and catheter ablation procedures, including ablation for AF, SVT and VT. He also has extensive experience in the implantation and management of conventional pacemakers (PPM), implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs), conduction system pacemakers, cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT) and other cardiac devices.

Dr Ding has a particular interest in inherited heart conditions, including inherited arrhythmia syndromes and cardiomyopathies. He assesses individuals and families with a suspected or known inherited heart condition, a family history of sudden cardiac death, or unexplained fainting. He also sees patients experiencing palpitations (racing, pounding or irregular heartbeats), dizziness, fainting, unexplained breathlessness or reduced exercise tolerance.

Dr Ding holds a PhD in Cardiovascular Science, with research focused on atrial fibrillation, and has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed research publications. His research has contributed to the understanding and management of atrial fibrillation and other cardiovascular conditions, including work informing international clinical
guidelines. Dr Ding is committed to providing evidence-based, holistic and patient-centred care, with an emphasis on clear communication, individualised treatment and improving long-term cardiovascular outcomes.
