A/Prof Indika Alahakoon

Associate Professor Indika Alahakoon is a highly respected Obstetrician and Maternal Foetal Medicine Specialist with over 17 years of experience providing expert care in both public and private sectors. She is known for her individualised approach to all pregnancies, from uncomplicated natural births to the most complex high-risk cases.

A/Prof. Alahakoon graduated with first-class honours in Medicine from the University of Sydney and completed specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Westmead Hospital. She later sub-specialised in Maternal Foetal Medicine, earned a Diploma in Diagnostic Ultrasound (DDU), and completed a PhD investigating biomarkers in preeclampsia and foetal growth restriction.

She consults privately at Bella Vista and Westmead and delivers at Westmead Private, Norwest Private, and Westmead Hospital. She also serves as Senior Staff Specialist and former Head of Department at the Maternal Foetal Medicine Unit at Westmead Hospital, and is Director of the Centre for Women’s Ultrasound and Maternal Foetal Medicine.

A/Prof. Alahakoon is also an Associate Professor at the University of Sydney, actively involved in teaching, research, and advancing care in preeclampsia, foetal anomalies, and high-risk pregnancies. Her clinical excellence and compassionate care attract patients from across Australia and internationally.
