Dr Stuart Eaton

Mr Stuart G. Eaton is a specialist general surgeon based in Ballarat, Victoria. He has particular expertise in laparoscopic and minimally invasive surgery, with clinical interests including upper gastrointestinal disease, obesity surgery, splenic and adrenal pathology, and surgical oncology involving breast and skin conditions.

Mr Eaton completed his medical degree at the University of Melbourne before undertaking surgical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. After gaining his surgical qualification in 1998, he completed a fellowship in surgical oncology at the Peter MacCallum Cancer Institute, where he gained experience in breast cancer, melanoma, and thyroid and parathyroid disease.

He later undertook further clinical training in the United Kingdom at the Stockport Unit for Minimally Invasive Therapy (SUMIT) near Manchester, focusing on laparoscopic techniques for the management of hernias and upper gastrointestinal disease, including procedures for gastric and oesophageal malignancies.

Mr Eaton returned to Australia in 2001 and began practising in Ballarat. During his career he has introduced several advanced surgical techniques locally, including laparoscopic adrenalectomy and transhiatal oesophagectomy. In 2007 he undertook additional training in laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding for the treatment of obesity, later expanding his practice to include laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy and gastric bypass surgery following further training in 2011.

He is a member of the Obesity Surgery Society of Australia and New Zealand (OSSANZ) and has contributed patient data to the Bariatric Surgery Registry since its establishment.
