Dr Steven Chau

Dr Steven Chau is a highly regarded Senior Consultant Psychiatrist who is dedicated to providing comprehensive, patient-centred mental health care. He adopts a holistic, biopsychosocial approach to recovery, recognising that treating the whole person with a tailored management plan offers the best path to healthy living. Dr Chau is deeply committed to fostering strong, collaborative therapeutic relationships, empowering his patients to become active and resilient self-agents in their own recovery journeys. He is also highly passionate about public health promotion, working actively to improve mental health literacy and destigmatise psychiatric illness within the wider community.

As a versatile Specialist, Dr Chau possesses extensive expertise across a broad range of psychiatric disciplines. He has a particular interest in Sports Psychiatry, where he supports the mental wellbeing of elite athletes, including players from various national sporting codes. His clinical focus also encompasses the assessment and management of adult attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), anxiety disorders, and mood disorders. Additionally, Dr Chau has significant experience in addiction medicine, helping individuals recover from substance misuse, prescribed medication dependency, and behavioural addictions such as problem gambling. He is also certified to deliver specialised treatments, including advanced pharmacotherapy options for treatment-resistant conditions.

Dr Chau completed his medical education at the University of Melbourne, obtaining his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2007. He subsequently undertook extensive specialist training in psychiatry, culminating in his admission as a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists in 2014. He is an accredited Fellow of the Faculty of Adult Psychiatry and holds professional memberships with the International Society for Sports Psychiatry and the AFLPA Practitioners Network. To further enhance his clinical capabilities, he has also completed formal certification under the Spravato Readiness Programme.
