Dr Stephen Worthley

Professor Stephen Worthley is a senior interventional cardiologist with an extensive career in cardiovascular medicine, research and medical leadership. He is particularly recognised for his work in coronary intervention, structural heart procedures, advanced cardiac imaging and transcatheter valve therapies.

Professor Worthley’s practice centres on coronary artery disease, heart valve disease and complex structural heart conditions. Patients with chest pain, coronary narrowing, severe aortic stenosis, mitral valve disease or structural heart defects can see him because he provides both specialist assessment and advanced catheter-based treatment. His work includes coronary angiography, angioplasty and stenting, TAVI, transcatheter mitral valve replacement, left atrial appendage occlusion, and PFO or ASD closure.

Professor Worthley has published more than 250 peer-reviewed manuscripts, contributed to cardiovascular textbooks and led numerous international multicentre trials. His research has ranged from cardiac CT and MRI to coronary devices, stem-cell and natriuretic-peptide therapies, TAVI, mitral interventions and renal artery denervation.

Professor Worthley combines preventive cardiology, detailed diagnostic assessment and advanced minimally invasive intervention. His approach is centred on selecting treatment according to the patient’s specific heart condition, anatomy and overall health, with an emphasis on evidence-based care, clear communication and access to contemporary cardiovascular technologies.
