Dr Sophia Zagora

Dr Sophia Zagora is a highly accomplished Consultant Ophthalmologist and Eye Surgeon who specialises in the management of complex eye diseases. With a primary focus on medical retina, inflammatory disorders of the eye, glaucoma, and cataracts, she is dedicated to preserving and restoring vision for her patients. Dr Zagora provides comprehensive care for a wide range of conditions, including macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal vein occlusion, which are among the leading causes of visual loss. Her clinical approach is characterised by a commitment to delivering personalised, evidence-based treatments tailored to each patient's unique needs.

Dr Zagora graduated with Honours from the University of Sydney Medical School, where she obtained her medical degree. She subsequently completed a Master of Public Health and Tropical Medicine, which included clinical study in Papua New Guinea. Her specialist training in ophthalmology was undertaken through a prominent ophthalmic hospital network in Sydney, where she also served as the Professorial Senior Registrar. To further refine her expertise, she completed advanced sub-specialty fellowship training in uveitis, glaucoma, and medical retina at a leading Australian eye hospital, followed by a prestigious Uveitis Fellowship at a world-renowned eye hospital in London, focusing on both adult and paediatric inflammatory eye diseases. She is a Fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Ophthalmologists.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Zagora is a dedicated clinical academic and educator. She serves as a Clinical Senior Lecturer at the University of Sydney, where she is actively involved in teaching medical students and training the next generation of Ophthalmology Registrars. As an active researcher, she has published numerous book chapters and scientific manuscripts in major international peer-reviewed journals. Dr Zagora also contributes to the wider ophthalmic community as an investigator in international clinical trials for medical retina and uveitis, ensuring her patients benefit from the latest advancements in ophthalmic care.
