Dr Simon Pridgeon is a Consultant Urological Surgeon and Associate Professor of Surgery providing care for adult patients with a wide range of urological conditions.
He graduated from the University of Edinburgh Medical School in 1999 (MBChB) and completed his surgical training in Newcastle-upon-Tyne (MRCS). He earned a PhD in novel bladder cancer treatments at the Northern Institute for Cancer Research, funded by Cancer Research UK, The Urology Foundation, and the Royal College of Surgeons of England. Following urological surgery training in London (FRCS Urol), he undertook a fellowship in complex stone surgery at UCLH, laparoscopic training in Denmark, and passed the European Board of Urology Fellowship (FEBU). He completed a 2-year fellowship in minimally invasive kidney surgery, kidney transplant surgery, and robotic surgery in Brisbane before being awarded his Australian Fellowship (FRACS Urol) in 2019.
His clinical practice focuses on kidney cancer, kidney diseases, robotic surgery (robotic prostatectomy, partial nephrectomy, reconstructive surgery), complex stone disease, and benign prostatic hyperplasia (TURP, UroLift, Rezum). He holds a public appointment at The Cairns Hospital and operates on private patients at Far North Day Hospital, Cairns Private Hospital, Darwin Private Hospital, and Darwin Day Surgery.
An active researcher and educator, Dr Pridgeon has published over 35 peer-reviewed papers, authored two textbook chapters, and presented over 60 research papers internationally. He serves as Associate Professor at James Cook University and holds a visiting position at The Royal Darwin Hospital to train the next generation of urologists.
