About Professor Simon Platt

Professor Simon Platt is a highly experienced Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in foot and ankle surgery, currently serving at the Gold Coast Hospital and Health Service. With over 25 years of orthopaedic experience and over 19 years experience in his specialist field of foot and ankle surgery. Professor Platt is dedicated to providing personalised care tailored to each patient's unique circumstances.

Professor Platt always prioritises conservative treatment whenever possible. He believes in avoiding unnecessary surgeries and always engages in open and transparent discussions with his patients about their treatment options. If surgery is not warranted, he will explore alternative approaches to address the patient's condition effectively.

Professor Platt's specialisation includes a wide range of foot and ankle conditions, such as sports injuries, arthroscopic procedures, and minimally invasive surgeries. He was one of the first surgeons in the UK trained in minimally invasive foot surgery, a skill he has brought to Australia.

Professor Platt graduated from the University of Bristol, UK, in 1993. Prior to specialising in surgery, he spent a year teaching anatomy at the University of Liverpool. In 1999, he began his training as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, which resulted in him being awarded the fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery (FRCS) in 2004. In 2019, he achieved the title of Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He therefore one of a few surgeons who holds Fellowship of both the College of Surgeons of England and the Australasian College in Orthopaedic Surgery.

He was very professional, explained all options and procedures. He also explained that things may not go as smoothly as expected and the percentage of this happening. I felt reassured when I left his surgery.
