Dr Rowan Purtell is a dedicated and highly skilled General Practitioner who provides comprehensive primary care. With a strong commitment to patient-centred medicine, he delivers compassionate and reassuring care to individuals and families. Dr Purtell has extensive experience in rural and urgent care medicine, having worked across various regional settings to provide inpatient, urgent care, and after-hours services. His clinical approach focuses on preventative health, early detection, and empowering patients to make informed decisions about their wellbeing.
Dr Purtell completed his Bachelor of Biomedical Science at the Queensland University of Technology in 2009, followed by his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) at Deakin University in 2013. Committed to continuous professional development, he obtained a Diploma of Child Health from the University of Sydney in 2016 and achieved Fellowship of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) in 2018. Furthering his expertise in dermatological care, he completed an Advanced Certificate of Skin Cancer Medicine in 2023 and a Diploma of Skin Cancer Medicine in 2025 through HealthCert.
In addition to his broad General Practice expertise, Dr Purtell has developed a strong clinical focus on skin cancer medicine. He is highly proficient in conducting comprehensive skin checks, diagnosing skin cancers, and performing advanced surgical techniques and procedures for benign skin lesions. His passion for the prevention, early detection, and treatment of skin cancer is complemented by his active involvement as a Medical Educator, where he helps train the next generation of General Practitioners. Outside of his clinical practice, he enjoys snow skiing and spending quality time with his family.
